What is Nervous System Energy Work?

Bill Gray was a healer of the 20th century, described in Ruth Montgomery's book Born to Heal (Ballantine, 1973) as "Mr. A." Although no one appeared to carry on his work after his death in the 1970's, his legendary success with medically untreatable conditions suggested something important in his unusual and difficult to understand theories. Carol DeSanto and Jim Kepner, using their 30 plus years of collective experience as energy healers and therapists, were intrigued.

Following the obscure glimpses of Bill's principles in the few references they could find, and through rigorous and disciplined intuitive work and experiment, Jim and Carol developed their own "translation" of Bill Gray's work in a contemporary, practical and teachable form. The results have exceeded their hopes in the power and effectiveness of this approach.

Nervous System Energy Work starts from the understanding that the human nervous system, in addition to its physiological function, is also a magnificent system for distributing subtle energy in the body. This energetic flow through the nervous system nourishes and clears our cells, organs and body systems, and enhances our vitality and self-awareness.

In Nervous System Energy Work, the practitioner generates and directs a flow of energy which clears, opens and reorganizes the circulation of energy through the clients nervous system. Since the nervous system transfers subtle energy very directly to body tissues NSEW is often experienced as having immediate and palpable effects on the body and on body awareness. Nervous System Energy Work effectively grounds and anchors us in our embodied life while helping to open access to our subtle, spiritual nature.

NSEW is a coherent approach to energetic work by itself, and can be readily integrated into other forms of healing. It has been used to enhance nursing, medical treatment, massage, psychotherapy, movement work and other approaches. It's powerful effect on enhancing body sensation and awareness makes it a significant tool for body-oriented psychotherapies and somatic education.
